How to Visit the Great Wall of China: Which Section to Visit, Guide to Badaling and Mutianyu Sections

If you want to go to the Great Wall of China, then you can go to two sections, one section is the Badaling Great Wall and another section is the Mutianyu Great Wall, it is about 1.5 hours drive from Beijing, you can to go to the Badaling section or Mutianyu section. It is about 70 km, so if you want to go to the Great Wall of China, then which of them is very famous, do you know that Badaling section is also very famous, than Mutianyu section, a lot of Chinese go to Badaling section than Mutianyu. Badaling has become completely commercial, it has been now completely restored, so what that section actually is, it is a 12 km long section but in that section you can walk and explore up to 4 km and most of the tourists are Chinese but if you are an international tourist then I would suggest you to go to Mutianyu Great Wall of China, that section is Approx. 21,000 km stretch. In that section you will get to see the well preserve great wall, very naturistic feel and less renovated. I would suggest you to go Mutianyu Great Wall section, But if you want to visit Mutianyu great wall then i would suggest you to book tickets online. Tickets are available onsite also for both the sections as well. My recommendation is to book tickets well in advance so that you can save your time standing in long queues and last moment ticket availability. In that tickets you get inclusive of cable car ride, shuttle bus for up and down and much more.

So in this guide i will tell you how to book your tickets online for Mutianyu Great Wall

Click on Get Tickets and scroll down, select which preferred date and time period, i would suggest you to explore great wall in morning as well as evening. If you would like to go only in morning then click on AM and keep scrolling down then click on Mutianyu great wall. In this sections you can explore approximately 20 sections. The cost comes for adult is 200 yuan inclusive of shuttle bus till entrance, you need to take the bus from specific location, and cable car round trip ticket. You can also descend via toboggan for much adventure like fun. But in badling section there is no toboggan, you can just slide up and down or steps. For Students its 180 yuan. Click on Add tourist information and proceed. Don't forget to carry your passport as it will be scanned in some locations. Next fill your name, id type and id number and click on ok. If there are more tourist then follow the same procedure. After filling all the tourist details then click on next step.

Then select from which country you belong then name and email id, as you will receive your entrance ticket in your email. After accepting terms and conditions click on to pay. Then on the next page complete the payment process for your order by filling your card details. Once upon successful payment you will receive your tickets via email and you can take the copy in your mobile and show it at the entrance counter, they will scan it and issue the entrance ticket.

You can also book for Great Wall Night Tour and for that click on it as it is also inclusive of regular ticket, shuttle bus and cable car round trip ticket. In that tourist can visit from watch tower no 10 to watch tower no 15. Timings are from 7.30pm to 21.00 pm and check in starts from 5.30pm. The procedure to book the tickets is as to book the great wall tour, which i have explained above.

There is also option for booking guide for your great wall tour, for that just click on tour guide service but the price would be quiet high. Guided tour ticket is for approx. 2 hours with a wireless head set and the tour route is from No. 14 to No. 19 watch towers. timings for this service is from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm and you need to be at tourist service center. Tickets price is approx. 880 yuan for less than 10 people.

Even there is option to book tickets for great wall VIP treatment tour product, Its basically a luxury tour product, once you disembark from shuttle bus just look for staff members wearing luxury tour product attire to verify tickets, and you will receive exclusive stickers on the arm and customized tickets and enter the park showing the stickers and tickets for inspection. The tickets price are 980 yuan per person and booking process is same as explained above.

Booking the tickets of Mutianyu Great Wall is the best option as you get all inclusive or else if you want to customized then you can do as you wish like if you want one way cable car ticket and return via steps, that also you can choose. if you want you add your lunch at Yisonglou restaurant is also available. Don't forget to carry your passport as it get scanned at several sections.

At Mutianyu, you can choose to hike up to the Wall or take a cable car. Once you're done exploring, you can either return the same way or take a toboggan ride down. The toboggan ride is particularly fun as it involves controlling your speed with a joystick, allowing you to descend quickly in about 10 minutes. While the toboggan ride is available at Mutianyu, it’s not an option at Badaling, which only offers a more standard cable car experience. For those visiting with family, children under 1.2 meters in height can ride the shuttle bus and cable car for free. If they are taller, regular ticket prices apply. Senior citizens, children, and disabled visitors may qualify for discounted tickets, but you’ll need to present the relevant documents for verification at the ticket counter. If you’re looking to avoid the crowds, winter is the best time to visit. The landscape is covered in snow, offering a breathtaking and peaceful atmosphere with few tourists. Just be prepared for cold weather and ensure you wear appropriate clothing. Both the Badaling and Mutianyu sections of the Great Wall offer incredible experiences, but for a more relaxed and scenic visit, Mutianyu is highly recommended. Whether you're going for the views, the history, or the thrill of the toboggan ride, booking your tickets online in advance will make your visit smooth and enjoyable.
