Explore less crowded destinations in Luxembourg, with unspoilt landscapes, and cosmopolitan elegance, all in close proximity. A destination that offers something unique for every traveler seeking adventure and beauty in the heart of Europe
Luxembourg, a small yet beautiful country in Europe, offers a delightful blend of history, culture, and lush natural beauty. Despite its size, it boasts impressive landscapes, medieval castles, vibrant cities, and a strong international influence. Here's the hand picked places which you should not miss to visit at any cost:
Parc Merveilleux: Wonderful play/animal park to spend an afternoon with your children. Entrance for adults is 15 euros per person and children up to 2 years are free. You just have to buy individual tokens for a number of "attractions". These tokens cost 1.5 euros each, and with them you can go on the train, the cars and various small carousels. The food and drinks are not expensive and the staff is very friendly. It is recommended to watch the feeding of the red pandas. There are beautiful playgrounds and suitable for all ages, so all children can easily have fun there. The entry price includes the playgrounds and the small zoo but not the attractions such as the little train etc. This place is very well equipped to accommodate families with children with play structures, picnic tables, a restaurant, toilets in several places in the park. This is a very nice park for young and old, but especially for children. There are so many animals, both native and exotic. Children can let off steam in many playgrounds. In summer you should have swimming costumes for the children because there is also a water playground. There is the fairytale world in various little houses; you can listen to the fairy tales in German, French and Luxembourgish. A small train runs through part of the park. You can spend a whole day there, I recommend this place without hesitation.
Bourscheid Castle: Great castle complex located in the middle of the Ardennes. It has a Beautiful view of the valley and a great selection of merchandise items. The castle is worth visiting with great views and price is 7 euros for adults and Children up to 5 is free and above 6 is reduced rate. For someone with a fear of heights, some parts of the tour are not exactly great. Audio guidance costs 2 euros extra and is definitely worth it, if you have a small Bluetooth speaker it will be better if you are with a group. The castle has been partly restored, which makes it a beautiful whole. This also gives you some idea of what the castle must have looked like. You can also use an audio tour during your visit. There is some catering at the entrance. You shouldn't imagine too much about this, but it's great to get an ice cream, something soft or a cup of coffee. You can sit comfortably on the seats along the castle wall or on the roof terrace. All in all it is definitely worth a visit!
Mudam Museum of Modern Art: Mudam is a space dedicated to contemporary art located in a modern and bright building. The exhibitions are varied and thought-provoking, showcasing works of international renown and emerging talent. A modern art museum where installation art is the main focus. This is such a beautiful building, architecturally. It is photogenic, good at any angle. Mind boggling that it sits on a fort and this can be seen when walking outside the museum to explore the outside areas. We went when the exhibits were changing, we still got to see a few of artworks. Even if there were no artworks to be viewed, the building itself is worth a visit! If you are a huge fan of modern art then you should not miss tot visit. The museum is not so big. it takes less then a hour to get around, but it is absolutely worth it. In the end of the exhibition there is a very big cafe and food place also.
Vianden Castle: One of the most beautiful castles in Luxembourg, Great! Very worth seeing! We recommend the audio guide via smartphone for €2. Absolutely beautiful setting, easy to get to with the public transport in Luxembourg. The castle is well designed in order to walk through the whole thing just following the numbers. The castle has been rebuilt so its nice to see what a castle would look like back in the day. Furthermore, the visit to the castle is absolutely focused on your consumption, since the established route takes you past countless "artisan" stalls from minute 1. An interesting exposition, there is a cafe and a souvenir shop on the territory of the castle. The castle offers a beautiful view of the city. For €10 entry you could immerse yourself in another world. The well-marked tour and the many information boards with explanations are very nice.

1.Hohllay Cave: Hohllay Cave offers a wonderful hiking experience for families. The trails are easy to follow, making it perfect for kids. Parking is convenient, and the scenery is stunning. The area is well-maintained and clean. We'll definitely make it a part of your itinerary on visits to Luxembourg. It is a part of Mullerthal trail. Parking is free , It's just 5 mins to the cave. This is a beautiful terrain to walk through. There’s more than one way to get here, and some routes are shorter than others. Even so, the walk is worth it. There are tons of streams and rivers, as well as beautiful microbiomes nestled among the rocks. It can get steep at times, so I recommend an adventurous spirit if you want to take the longer routes. While the cave itself isn’t too amazing, its history kind of makes up for it if you read the signs. As a side note, it’s a great place for a leisurely walk with friends, with lots of natural rocky roofs and benches. there are few bathrooms so i recommend taking a toilet roll with you. From the bus stop is a short walk to the caves and amphitheater. After seeing the caves continue the hike route to E1. Interesting place hidden among the trees. A wonderful entry / exit point to numerous hiking trails in the region. The rock formations are unique and an amphitheater is worth a shout. Patterns of mill stones extraction are still visible on the caves. The trail continues along the brook Black Ernz towards a small cascade called Schiessentümpel located under lovely stone bridge and accompanied by impressive rocks.
2.Perekop: Nice Viewpoint and also walk at Perekop Berdorf. Many stairs to climb, certainly not suitable for everyone. The road to the top in particular is very narrow and steep. A beautiful large rock that you can climb by stairs via the side. Nice view at the top. You can park your car at the bottom of the rock or you can take it with you on your walking route E1. Very narrow gap between the rocks, going up is quite tough but definitely try to do it. Most go from bottom to top and come down the other side with another staircase. It is also wider and not between the rocks. At the top you also have a plateau with a lookout. Great rock formation, You climb through the narrow gap in the rock using a narrow ladder and enjoy a beautiful view from above.
3.Siweschlëff: Great destination, great landscape. Gorges and great views right next to each other, magical passages and trails. Steep rocks with many climbing spots. 7 minutes walk from the Martbusch campsite. Higher rock formations, narrow paths and lots of green with occasional small waterfalls. Deep vertical clefts divide the sandstone into high towers. A path leads through the narrow and gloomy crevices. A special cool-humid microclimate could form inside, so that the mosses and ferns, for which the region is known, can thrive here. After the narrowness of the gorges, the view across the valley of the Black Ernz opens on the upper edge of the plateau. Pines grow on the sandy soils of the plateau, while beech trees grow on the sandy, loamy debris below. The shallower lower slopes are made of marl, a mixture of clay minerals and limestone, and are mostly used as grassland. If you are traveling with children, an adult should always take the lead to make sure that you can get through everywhere and that the children do not suddenly disappear.
4.Mullerthal Trail, Escapardenne Eislek Trail: Luxembourg's Little Switzerland is a wonderful place for lovers of nature and walks. Many different route possibilities for unforgettable walks. A beautiful place in a beautiful country. It is suitable for family walks. The landscape is very beautiful and the area is clean. There is parking for cars and a place for children's games. Fantastic route with quite a bit of height difference. Best done when it is not too hot. Be sure to get off the path every now and then to find some nice viewpoints. You can easily find the route again. Take a quick trip to the tourist information point to get advice on possible walks. Mullerthal is a great option for hikers especially when you want to spend some time in nature away from city life. Beautiful route through forests, between rock formations. Up and down steps. Make sure you wear good shoes and bring something to drink. You can walk a whole lap or back and forth. At the bottom of the Mullerthal there are a few restaurants where you can eat and drink and use a toilet. There are a number of benches along the route.
Cathédrale Notre-Dame: Probably one of the most beautiful buildings in Luxembourg, It usually works from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, except for Sundays, when it works from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary was originally a Jesuit church, the foundation stone of which was laid in 1613. It is an exceptional example of the late Gothic style, which reveals various components and decorations inspired by the Renaissance style. The stained glass windows were made by Louis Barillet, the carving above the door as well as some sculptures were made by Daniel Müller and date from 1621. A very imposing church, it deserves all the attention to visit it. The building, which is the largest cathedral in the city, is considered one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture and reveals the change that Luxembourg has seen over time. The very beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral is one of the top sights in the city on a sightseeing tour through Luxembourg's old town and is therefore definitely worth recommending to us!
William Square: The city of Luxembourg is a testament to the endurance of history and the promise of the future. It is a fortress city rooted in centuries of courage, where the shadows of ancient walls meet the streets of a thriving, modern metropolis. Here, the spirit of progress walks hand in hand with the legacy of the past. From the towering cliffs to the deep valleys below, it reminds us that greatness is not measured by size but by the impact we leave upon the world. In its narrow streets and open squares, the echoes of resilience are matched only by the drive to build a better tomorrow. It is one of the liveliest squares in Luxembourg. Markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays, various activities on weekends, children's play area, colorful water jets that come out of the ground, several restaurants around, beautiful terraces to have a drink, the Luxembourg tourist office is located in this place. There is also the Luxembourg town hall, the Population Office (Bierger Center). Just across the street behind is Luxembourg Cathedral and the Palais Grand Ducal is at the end of the square. It is the crossroads for the city's commercial center.
Bock Casemates: The casemates are also an impressive sight when viewed from below. A cobblestone path leads up to the historic old town. Its an Interesting place to learn more about the history of Luxembourg and how these tunnels were used. You also get to enjoy some beautiful panoramic views here. The views that this place gives are incredible, with a route full of history. At the entrance they will give you a guide to tour the place. It is not suitable for people in wheelchairs as it does not have adapted access. 10€ per adult... so you don't see much other than stone and 2-3 old cannons. If the history of this place is your interest then this is a good attraction to visit. It’s easy to get lost inside if you’re not paying attention, as there are various tunnels leading out from the main artery. The floor is uneven so just be careful. It’s dark in certain areas and a little creepy especially when there aren't people. You’re given a small map as you enter but it’s easy to get disoriented even if there are numbers once in a while somewhere on the walls.
National Art and History Museum: It is a fabulous place to see the world history and the Luxembourg too. There are quite a lot of monuments. There are around 8 to 10 floors to explore. There will be temporary exhibitions as well with the a paid ticket in 1 or 2 floors. Rest are free. Walk about 800 meters from Place Guillaume II. It's such a huge museum. The connecting passageway between the 1st and 4th floors is well-organized, and everything from ancient Roman relics to modern installation art is displayed by artist and era. The collection is very large and as a history lover there were beautiful pieces in the collection. The history and archeology alternates nicely with the art and photography exhibits present. The exhibits were smaller but very nicely decorated. A kind of route had been drawn up for children through the museum. Its not busy on weekdays and you can certainly spend a whole afternoon there. Highly recommended.
Panoramic Elevator of the Pfaffenthal:The Pfaffenthal Panoramic Elevator is a public elevator in Luxembourg city. This new glass elevator connects the historical city center with Pfaffenthal, in the Alzette Valley below. The ride in this ultramodern glass elevator features a sweeping views to the pedestrians and cyclists.. This elevator is free to use and gives access to the old town, There might be little queue to get into the elevator, the lifting itself is smooth not scary. There is a viewpoint at the top with a small piece of glass bottom for those who want to try looking down. In less than 30 seconds you will reach the top of Luxembourg where you will be offered beautiful views. It works like a classic elevator where you simply press the button and wait for it to arrive. You can take the elevator down or walk along the nice tunnel to the park.
Philharmonie Luxembourg: A magnificent building with exceptional acoustics. However, it's easy to get lost inside and finding your place at events can be difficult. The staff are very friendly and always attentive. It is a place for eclectic and very high-level performances. Tram access from the city center is convenient, although the location on the outskirts diminishes the charm a little. An incredibly beautiful building with wonderful architecture. There are many performances to experience here. The Philharmonic has its own parking garage; you have to drive through the tunnel to do this, as the entrance to the parking garage is at the back of the Philharmonic. it is a concert hall located on the Kirchberg plateau, in the city of Luxembourg. Opened in 2005, it now hosts 400 performances each year and is one of Europe's leading concert venues.
Gëlle Fra: The memorial, known by the nickname Gelle Fra (Luxembourgish "Golden Lady"), is a war memorial dedicated to Luxembourgers who fell in battle during two world wars and in Korea. What is truly mystical is that after the Second World War, the statue was last exposed to the public in 1955 at an exhibition, and then "disappeared" until 1981, when it was discovered under the stands of the Josie Barthel Stadium. A copy was placed again on his obelisk, and the inauguration of the reconstructed monument was held on June 23, 1985. The original is exhibited in the Luxembourg museum. Next to it is a kiosk with distinctive souvenirs and a cafeteria with an excellent location and comfortable seating on the bridge overlooking the forests below and close to Notre Dame Cathedral. The connection to local transport is good and the city center can be reached on foot within a few minutes. Nice place to visit in sunny days. You can also enjoy some refreshments on the local street food trucks and bars. There is also a sand mini beach. You can also enjoy the panoramic view of the bridge and the park.
