Our journey starts 42 kilometers from Harihar Fort, a location that is become famous for its special steps that are super steep making it difficult to climb. We set and start this one-hour drive with hope of visiting Harihar Fort, following with other attractions.
The journey from Nashik to Harihar Fort is considered to be quite pleasant. It roughly takes half an hour to reach Anjaneri Hills which is an another significant location. If you want to visit the Anjaneri Hills, you need to get off the highway where the sign suggests that yo take a left. The trip to Anjaneri Hills takes about 45 minutes to 1 and a half hours on foot besides covering a distance that takes about 2 hours by car to some point and then a hour on foot. The trail is of steps up to the top, where there is a temple of Lord Hanuman and a beautiful lake.
Moving ahead the same highway, we came across the place at a junction before the Anjaneri Hills with a small bus stop here. We make a u-turn at the forest check post and then take a sharp left turn which is a quite narrow off-road track. Once we got our tickets we park the car and start our small journey towards Harihar Fort. The trek is by walk for nearly thirty minutes to an hour and a half. It all starts with steep and sharp rocky paths. It’s not easy, yes, but the panoramas are simply breath-taking and giving a feel of a true explorer.
Starting from the second part of the leg, it becomes difficult compared to the 15 minutes stretch. The trail steepens somewhat and this is as far as I get into seeing the kind of steps for which Harihar Fort is attractive. These steps were carved during the reign of Shivraji without the mechanical aids and facilities available today, in certain locations they go up at 80 degree angle. The steps are little rough, very slippery and also there are little pits where one might even twist their ankle while climbing them. However, climbers can grab on to these grooves created on the face of the rock, making the climbing easier.
In about 20 minutes of walking we stop at a small shop, where we sit down and have a lime juice. The lack of public seen in the route is due to it being a weekday, makes it calm. It otherwise becomes a manic scene. It starts becoming even more challenging, and the steps that were once marked to guide the way now seem nearly perpendicular. The history of the place evokes strong feelings, and one can only marvel reminisce about how the people who erected this fort could do so without the use of technology.
When we climb to the very top we are able to observe not only the curiosity but the marvelous sight below. This is the climax where the climber finally arrives at the top of the rock, rewarding a scenic view that cannot be explained in words. From such inventions like the specialty of the stairs one can only respect and be marveled at the ingenuity of the architects behind the fort.
At the top, close to the flag, the feeling of elevation is enormous. We take a small tour around, admiring facts, spotting the historical meaning and wonders of nature. After spending some time up there we start our descent following the view which captures our attention. The descend journey takes around one to two hours depending on how brave you are.
Returning to the base we plan for this and look forward to wander around the Trimbakeshwar Temple. We go to the temple passing through more attractive sceneries. On arriving at the temple there is a busy area of food vendors selling snacks and drinks as well as many hotels. The atmosphere is friendly place to grab a bite and take a break.
The hotel we selected is Om Gurudev Hotel which is a popular restaurant for people that serve vegetarian foods particularly Gujarati and Punjabi thalis. The meal is great and filling, all of us recharge our energy after the walk. It was nice to be close to the temple, impressive of its appearance and architectural design.

It was crucial for us to rest at the Krishna Inn, where we had to spend the night but we didn't.
At the end of the day, it was clear to us that the tourism has really enriched us, the experience of visiting Nashik as well as its attractions have been a thrilling one. We have to single out Harihar Fort, the sights of which affect us, and the hike to which will be quite a challenge. This trip can hardly be forgotten as climbing the steep steps, getting to the top, enjoying the magnificent view opennning to the clouds, and finding out a lot of interesting information about this fort. We had the enjoyed the trip to Trimbakeshwar Temple and sumptuous food at Om Gurudev Hotel as part of our aromatic spice tour.
The travel from Nashik to Harihar Fort and beyond has been an inspiring journey full of wonderful, Breathtaking Nature Education – Historical Qualities – and Cultural trips. In case you have an opportunity to visit the city of Nashik definitely pay attention to the Harihar Fort – it is an incredible object that combines the spirit of the reckless adventures of the past and thrilling traces of early historic times. It forms a great experience, which involves steep steps, an overall view of the nearer areas, and the excitement of arriving at the top of the hill.
