Curious Puligundu Day Tour

Exploring the Weird Puligundu Twin Rock Mountain | Curious Day Tour Adventure to Puligundu Mountain

We began the journey at 8:30 AM from Chennai, after enroute breakfast as this would be the best time to begin travelling. We decided to visit Chittoor which at present is not well known or famous among the travelers destination. This is one of the best kept secret for the trekking lovers and has a beauty which cannot be described in words. Located about 150 Kms and 200 Kms from Bangalore & Chennai respectively the trek is only 18 Kms from Chittoor and 50 Kms from the famous Temple city of Tirupati. The adventurous trek to the top is a tad risky. However, that is the beauty of it.

While on the move an unplanned brief stop was made to purchase the mangosteen fruit from road side vendors, in season that cost's ₹150 per kg. This is one fruit that grows in the tamilnadu-kearla border region and definitely worth a try. The drive to the pioneering point of our trekking would take nearly an hour from our current point, but the view was beautiful throughout the region to help making it a marvelous experience and get us prepared for the activities in advance.

When we got to the base of the mountain, marvel loomed at our very face. It loomed large, about a 1000 feet above and we could clearly find it challenging enough to climb it. Over the base, there is a vast area covered in the dense forest and a village named Gundipalli. This mountain slightly resembles two round eggs with a ladder that joins the two from the middle. The one on the left is revered as the shelter for Lord Shiva, the one to the right is worshipped as Lord Parvati. It is told, that in the small temple at the top, one has to make a wish and it will definitely come true.

The road to the base was newly paved. The slippery soil thereafter made the ride very hard. After a long car journey which took roughly three and a half hours we got to the base point. The track in the mountain was one-lane and twisty which was a little challenging for us as try to move upwards.

The first part of the trek was somewhat easy nevertheless it was here and there steep at some parts. We had to be extra careful. The path was excellent, and one could look out for miles and see across the entire valley. The further we went, the more beautiful the view got even though we were heading up at this point. We could look at the entire Chittoor region right from the hills with a forest cover to the distant village of Gundipalli.

You reach a point where you have trek through a single man passage over an iron railing which makes squeaking noises while walking over it. We reach a point of naturally carved stones between the 2 hills, completely dark and filled with bats above. Just a crazy experience, just do carry a torch as it gets pitch dark. Trekking here after the sunset would make it real hard.

Finally the tiring trek led us to the tiny Shiva temple on the peak of the hill. This temple does not attract a lot of people and is not very popular except once a year during a festival (kana pongal)celebrated by the local people. This tells you that the place is quiet, and contributes greatly to make it a good place for both reflection and worshipping. The top view was in my point of view stunning. We got a view of the small bridge that we crossed before and the mountains in all their majesty.

Then, We proceeded towards the second of the two summits that demanded, crossing of a very slim and slightly risky trail. It was somewhat steep climb that was devoid of proper steps at several points. But the view of the top was worth all the effort that was put in. That was when for the first time, we saw the whole geography, the green vast forest area, the distant looking villas making it look like a perfect painting on canvas for us.

It approximately took us one hour to climb this mountain but the experience was great. The joy, which was obtained at the end after climbing to the top, together with the splendid views seen, creating a memorable experience. We photographed the place and the amazing journey various times to keep alive the memories for ever.

After descending back, we acknowledge the trip we had as we moved up the hill. While it was not only the physical experience that the climbers may perceive during the event, but also such values as relation to nature, and the resulting recreational experience of participation in such a passionate event in the nature. This trek is quite easy and can be done by anyone of reasonable fitness whether they are young or old. Besides, it combines exploration, religion, and spectacular sceneries.

This is how we came to the end of our trek with a positive feeling that we have accomplished our goal. The road had not been easy, but the experience that had been gathered was priceless. If there is anyone planning to go on a trekking session, then this unexplored beauty in Chittoor is a must-visit. This natural site’s aesthetic value joined with the attractiveness that comes with an extra bit of exploration makes it a favourite of trekkers.

Our journey to this beautiful and unheard paradise of Chittoor was more than exciting!! If there is anything more you would like to know, then feel free to ask us. We would be glad to assist you in planning your own wonderful trip to this beautiful and somewhat off the beat track for trekkers’ paradise.
