A Guide to the Relatively Uncrowded Travel Destination near Chennai – The Kanchanagiri Hills and Bell Rock Mountain
In this article i will be guiding you to a Hill Station that is tucked between hills, which is only 3-4 hours drive from Chennai but offers a serene environment with lush green forests. Many do not know the existence of this place and thus the best location for people who may wish to visit this site hoping to get some peaceful time with maybe just some food and drinks. There's also a small lake teeming with fish, where you can even try your hand at fishing.
Start your drive through the city of Chennai, later navigating through Chennai's traffic and eventually hitting the highway. It was good as we to and fro for 500-kilometer distance. The ride to Kanchanagiri Hills was actually eventful, and as soon as we got out of the city it became greener and greener. The roads were are somewhat good but the ascent up the hill was a smaller less frequented road which could easily be missed. Navigating to the location with the help of locals made it easy. They call the place Lalapettai and though not very popular with the tourists it is also almost a mute point making it very peaceful.
Having arrived to the hill station one could rejoice its incredible landscapes. Although the hill was not so big, but it is beautiful. This was an opportunity to view the scenery and it was really breathtaking from the top. There are no structures or accents paved the way to reach the peak but it is covered with thick grass and eucalyptus trees. Towering at the top is the Shiva and Murugan temple and this gives the whole experience of a religious appeal. We were saved by the numbers of moneys that almost attacked us when we pit stopping for some snacks. The local vendor chased them out.
Trekking for sometime in the lush green grass ground for around 15 mins we reached the top. Some of the main attractions in the eastern zone include Kanchanagiri hills or else called Bell Rock. The peculiar acoustic characteristic of this type of rock is that when struck it produces a bell sound, making the place even more enchanting. We had time to wander around the rock and experiment the sound. Trying to hit the rock with stones, it did make a bell-like sound indeed! Impressed to see how the nature awaits to be explored. Looking at the horizon, sunsetting we clicked a ton of pictures. The city view from here is just breathtaking. It is also inhabited by couple of monkeys so one has to be careful with what they carry along the area. Beside the lake there are shops from where you can purchase some snacks and drinks. The water is clean and the environment is quiet. The water is clear, and the surroundings are peaceful, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy nature.
From here we Trekked further to reach this white standalone pillar which however had nothing inside or besides it, was a great point to relax. It became super windy here with the sun setting and the cold air blowing in. This was tranquil than we thought it would be. After whiling our time here we head back to our car.
We then quickly proceeded to the Vellore Fort as it takes a hour drive from Kanchanagiri Hills viewpoint. Due to our late arrival we missed the entry to go inside the fort by a few minutes, hence we could not do it. However an another site of interest in Vellore is the famous Golden Temple which can be visited. This place is famous among people around the city for its peculiar outer gold structures. However, Vellore also boasts the famous Golden Temple, which is worth visiting if you have the time.
Altogether, Kanchanagiri Hills is an enjoyable place to visit for a day outing from Chennai. Its a easy outing for the public staying in Vellore. This place whether you want a quiet place to relax, a place to have a picnic, or a more something adventurous like the Bell Rock and the lake then this is the place for you. It is near the city to visit for some hours as such it provides loneliness and the beauty of being around nature. Take a chance to visit this wonderful location.
